Has fear taken the best of you in life?
Have you avoided talking to that person you liked?
What is your everyday fear?
Worried about speaking in public?
Ever avoided putting up a hand to answer a question?
Especially since the pandemic, there is a lot of uncertainty in the world right now.
Which is giving fear more fuel and more control of our decisions and how we live our lives.
Personally, I don’t think it’s possible to live a life without fear.
Without fear, there would be no courage.
Trying a martial arts class for the first time takes courage.
Training online in a virtual lesson takes courage.
Being the first junior in class to break a slab of wood… takes courage.
I remember the clothing brand ‘No Fear’.
But for most of us at West Coast Martial Arts, we ‘know fear‘.
Having a little time away from coaching has allowed for some reflection and introspection on fear.
One of the things I thought about is my mother.
She moved 3 kids from London to Blackpool in the 80s.
The mission, buy a guest house and give the family a better lifestyle.
Leaving her family support 250 miles away, she just did it.
This took a lot of courage and she made mistakes.
So there were course corrections, some small and some big.
But she did not let fear stop her.
When it comes to trying something new. From finding and trying a martial arts class near you to letting someone know how you feel about them.
My advice is always the same “just do it…. you’re doing it…. get on with it”
Count back from 5 to 1, then GO!
Positive action, even just 5s worth is enough to challenge fear and change your life.
You could stand up to a bully at school.
Help someone in need, when everyone else is frozen in fear.
5s of confidence can help you get noticed at work in a positive way.
When you ‘KNOW FEAR’ you can change the role you’re playing on that movie inside your head.
Going from victim to hero.
Next time you have a small fear to overcome, do it.
Even if its only the smallest win.
From getting out of bed when you would rather hit snooze or messaging a club near you about an activity you want to try.
It all adds up.
People who manage their fear, manage to fight.
